 Darling Cemetery History

10815 190th St. Little Falls Minnesota

The Church property was purchased from Carl A. Lindbergh, father of Charles Lindbergh, and perhaps that purchase included enough for the cemetery start. The first burial took place in 1892. The Immanuel Church was organized in 1893, so the land might have been made available for burial first and then the Church acquired the property after being organized.
The following are significant dates for the cemetery  from the Secretary Book of the Interim Committee on planning for the Immanuel Lutheran Church - Darling:
  • October. 24th, 1952 - Additional land deeded by Carl J. Anderson for cemetery purposes.
  • November 12th, 1953 - Name of the cemetery to be Darling Lutheran Cemetery.
  • January 17th, 1953 - Church separated from the cemetery.
  • January 24, 1953 - Articles of Incorporation drawn up by H. M Braggins, Attorney at Law and Notary Public, Morrison County, Minnesota. The persons forming the corporation were: GR Feakes, David A. Wells, Dagmar Johnson, C.L Swartz, Maynard Anderson, John Oliver Johnson, William Peterson and Eric Thelander.
  • May 5th, 1953 - Darling Lutheran Cemetery Association, Inc. organized in the City of Little Falls, Morrison County, Minnesota. The Darling Lutheran Cemetery Association, Inc. has been in existence since then.
  • December 21st, 1953 - Indenture Between Swedish Lutheran Emanuel Congregation and Lutheran Cemetery.
  • January 31st, 2000 - Indenture between Snow Creek Inc. and Darling Cemetery Association.
The Cemetery has a serene setting among mature pine trees and parts are being cleared for future burials.

Core value:
To memorialize and honor the Darling Swedish Lutheran Church and the members who built and/or attended that congregation by building a physical structure on the site of the original church building, which was demolished by fire on March 24th, 2017. This church was a historical landmark loved and visited by many local residents as well as members’ relatives and travelers, from near and far.
